What Is High-Risk Construction Work?

High-risk construction work is defined as any work that has the potential to cause severe injury or ill health. According to the Government of South Australia, there are more than 18 activities that are defined as high-risk construction work, including:

– Falling risk of more than 3 meters
– Tasks carried out on a telecommunication towner
– Demolition of structure that is load-bearing or related to the integrity of the structure
– Anything involving asbestos
– Changes or repairs to a structure that will need support in order not to collapse
– Construction near or in a confined space
– Near a trench or shaft that’s either in a tunnel or with a depth greater than 1.5 meters
– Any construction using explosives
– Work near or on pressurised gas distribution mains or piping
– Work near or on chemical fuel or refrigerant lines
– Work near or on electrical installations or services
– Work near or on an area that is flammable or contaminated
– Involves tilt-up or precast concrete
– Work near, adjacent, or on a road, railway, shipping lane, or anywhere else where there is traffic.
– Extreme temperature environments
– Work near water or liquids that could cause drowning
– Any type of diving work
